Nina KennedyDeflected Double Weave Shawls
A long, long time ago I took a Deflected Double Weave workshop with Madelyn Van der Hoogt at a weaving conference but I don’t remember where. She introduced me to this mysterious weaving structure and I was intrigued. In 2016 our guild invited Tom Knisely to come to Indianapolis to teach a Deflected Double Weave workshop and I jumped at the chance (both to take a class with this esteemed teacher and to try this structure again)! In his class I started to understand more about DDW and I was so grateful that our guild was able to host the workshop. For this guild celebration I chose to weave one of the 8 shaft DDW drafts that Tom had provided at the workshop (I had chosen a 4 shaft draft at the time). I am pleased with the results and hope to continue my exploration of this weave structure! Details Weaving draft # 5 from Tom Knisely DDW workshop Sept. 17-18 2016. Warp – 5/2 tencel painted warp (Shiny Dime Fibers) in colorway “Sea Holly” 8/2 tencel (Webs) in “Blueberry” Weft for Shawl # 1 – 5/2 tencel (Dragon Tale Yarn) in “teal” & 8/2/ tencel (Webs) in “Blueberry” Weft for Shawl # 2- 8/2 tencel (Brassard) in “Cactus” & 8/2 tencel (Webs) in “Blueberry” Sett - 20 epi (although I should have given the 5/2 tencel and 8/2 tencel different setts (i.e 5/2 tencel – 16-18 ep and 8/2 tencel 20-24 epi) Note: Shawl # 2 showed the pattern better probably due to difference in value of the “Cactus”color yarn. |
