Previous Meetings 2026 (other years here)

May 16, 2026: Navajo Rug Weaving with Cindy Wilson and Ellen Germann
Navajo rugs have been around for hundreds of years, and they remain distinct in the world of weaving. Two disparate schools of weaving have arisen over time: simple two-shaft loom rugs and standing loom frames in which all designs are inlaid. Both can be as simple or as complex as the weaver’s skills allow. We will explore these processes and look at examples of a variety of designs and weavers. Also, we will look at what wools are unique to Navajo rugs. Designs and the use of natural wool colors define many of the rugs.

April 18, 2026: Purses, Totes and More with Donna Hudson, Ruth Salmons and Jessica Madsen
I have fabric and I want to make a bag! What kind of bag do you want to make? What kinds of extras like handles, zippers and pockets do you want? What are you planning to put in the bag? Lots to think about.  Join our meeting to get answers.

March 21, 2026: Colonial Overshot miniatures to weave up quick by Jennifer Johnson

It's the 250th birthday of America, let's look back to see what we can reinterpret to modern applications from colonial times.

For weavers active during the Bi-Centennial (1976) or those who have looked at publications from that time – you'll notice a resurgence of interest in "Colonial" coverlets, predominantly overshot patterns.  Today's weavers may not find the hours required to weave such an heirloom, so what can we do instead?  Jennifer will present four variations of ways to take these historic patterns to become unique contemporary household or wearable handwoven statement items.  These smaller project concepts will open design options for a new look at these familiar motifs.  And will likely inspire you to pull out familiar sources with new inspiration.  Handouts, pattern drafts and informational materials will be supplied to the Guild a few days prior for you to print out and bring with you.  Come to the meeting to see what new inspiration can be found in these beloved historic patterns.

February 21, 2026: Living Blue – Traditional Japanese Indigo Dyeing and Weaving by Roland and Chinami Ricketts

Chinami and Rowland Ricketts work together to grow and process the indigo that colors their work using historical Japanese techniques.  In this presentation, Chinami and Rowland will share the process that leads from seed to dye before each discussing their individual work: Chinami’s kasuri (ikat) weaving and Rowland’s immersive installations.

Chinami will bring some samples of her work, and I’ll bring some samples of dried indigo leaves and composted indigo.

January 17, 2026: Great Weave Structures for Color and Texture Using Novelty Yarns with Robyn Spady
Walk into most yarn shops and it's easy to become fascinated with stunning novelty yarns.  But if you're a weaver, it can be a challenge to figure out how to incorporate them into weaving projects to showcase the yarns without breaking the bank.  In this presentation, a variety of weave structures will be reviewed to add new dimensions to your weaving and let you take advantage of fun and exciting yarns. This meeting will be ZOOM ONLY.
